9-11-17 fdl fire chief wants city council to outlaw sale of illegal fireworks in the city

todaySeptember 11, 2017

The Fond du Lac Fire chief  is asking the city council to outlaw the sale of illegal fireworks in the city.  Under the current ordinance fireworks that explode or leave the ground can be sold but not discharged in the city.   Fond du lac fire chief Pete O’Leary says that doesn’t make sense to him.   “Its hard to be an advocate for doing things the right way when you allow things that you can’t use to be sold in your city,”  O’Leary told WFDL news.   O’Leary says it’s a safety concern.  “Certainly within the scope of what I’m supposed to be doing as fire chief and help prevent fire and prevent people from doing harm to themselves.  That’s why we want to clean up this ordinance want to make it very clear to people what they can and cannot do,”  O’Leary said.  Fireworks that can be sold and used in the city include things like sparklers, smoke bombs and other explosive devices with less of a safety risk.
