The assistant Fond du Lac police chief says he hopes construction can start next year on a new police-fire training center. The city is purchasing the property on North Rolling Meadows Drive for $250,000. Assistant police chief Steve Klein says the training center will include an indoor shooting range and fire training tower. City taxpayers would pick up the entire cost of nearly $4 million prompting questions about asking the county to participate and allow the Sheriff’s Office to share the facility. Klein says the police department doesn’t believe that would work. “I know there’s been some discussion on that, but based on our analysis of the project and what we’re looking to do…monthly training with our officers, it does not appear there would be enough time in the day in the facility to facilitate that,” Klein told WFDL news.
