9-18-17 fdl resident and her son lobby in washington d.c. for cancer research funding

todaySeptember 17, 2017

Two Fond du Lac residents joined more than 700 cancer patients, survivors and volunteers from all 50 states in Washington D.C.  to lobby congress to make cancer a top priority.   Kay Lock and her son Ian met with members of Wisconsin’s congressional delegation urging them to support increased federal funding for cancer research.  Lock says she couldn’t believe it when she heard that president Trump’s proposed budget called for a 19 percent cut for the National Institutes of Health and more cuts for the National Cancer Institute.  Lock says funding for the National Institutes of Health go toward research for cancer and many other diseases.  Lock says she also asked lawmakers to co-sponsor legislation that would close a loophole in Medicare that results in surprise costs for seniors when a polyp is found during a colonoscopy.  Ian Lock is a cancer survivor.  He was diagnosed with bone cancer when he was a sophomore in High School.  Today Ian is a cancer researcher at the Huntsman Cancer Center in Salt Lake City Utah.  He received the Emerging Leader award at the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Leadership Summit in the nation’s capital.
