The Fond du Lac County District attorney says funding a staffed security checkpoint at the city county government center is about priorities. A courthouse security committee is asking the city and county to share the estimated $250,000 cost. But funding is not included in this year’s city or county budgets. DA Eric Toney says most area counties have security checkpoints. “Ozaukee county, Washington county, Winnebago county, Green Lake county, Dodge county are secure,” Toney told WFDL news. Outagamie county is secure, Brown county is not. I was just in the Manitowac County courthouse and they’re also not secure.” Toney says there have been threats of violence at the courthouse, including one made against him earlier this year.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
