A National Weather Service meteorologist says Hurricane Maria is another record breaker. Meteorologist Sarah Marquardt says the hurricane set a record for how quickly it gained strength from a category 1 storm to a category 5. “It was category one and it strengthened to category 5 within about 20 hours,” Marquardt told WFDL news. “That’s the fastest a storm has ever strengthened that fast.” Marquardt says at this point it appears the storm will stay in the Atlantic and not hit the United States.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
