None of us know exactly when a disaster will strike. But there are many simple, inexepensive ways you can build an emergency kit and plan for you and your family. September has been designated Preparedness Month to encourage residents to take time now to prepare before disaster strikes. Wisconsin Emergency Management spokesman Tod Pritchard says put together an emergency kit focusing on specific needs in your household. Keep an emergency kit in your car, especially during the winter months when you could become stranded in a car. Also consider sving money in an emergency savings account that could be used in any crisis.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
