The Fond du Lac Fire chief says seatbelts may have prevented more serious injuries or worse in a series of automobile crashes in Fond du Lac this week. Fond du Lac rescue personnel responded to four crashes Monday afternoon, including a rollover, car versus building and rear end collision. Fire chief Pete O’Leary says he can’t remember that many crashes in such a short period of time. “Its unprecedented,” O’Leary told WFDL news. O’Leary says its fortunate that nobody was seriously hurt. “Theres a common thread in all the crashes that all the injuries were minor and I think a lot of that has to do with people wearing seatbelts.”

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
