State health officials say the flu season is off to an early start in Wisconsin. Officials say from the start of the month through the end of this work week there have been 19 confirmed cases of influenza in the state. Eight people have been hospitalized. There were five cases reported in that same time period a year ago. But Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says its too early to say its going to be a bad flu season. “It could just mean that this flu season is earlier. So maybe it would peak earlier and maybe we would see it going away earlier,” Mueller told WFDL news. “Its kind of hard to say if we should be worried at this time.” Mueller says the results show that people should get their flu shots as soon as possible. Mueller says there is plenty of vaccine available. Mueller says the flu shot is recommended for everybody ages six months and older. Common signs of the virus include abrupt onset of fever, muscle aches, sore throat and cough.
