A mother and daughter from Manitowac are urging legislators to reject bills that would attempt to force local governments to comply with federal immigration laws. Jennifer Estrada and her 12 year old daughter Isabelle Martinez joined about 200 immigrant workers at a state capitol rally. Five years ago Estrada’s husband was arrested by ICE agents and deported to Mexico. “My husband was working at a restaurant in Manitowac County. He was working there ten years, paying taxes, didn’t have a police record,” Estrada told WFDL news. Martinez was only seven when her dad was deported. She says it changed her life forever. “I see a lot of kids at school hugging their dads and I think to myself I wish I could have that. I wish he could just come and hug me. That’s really all I want, is the hugs.”
