A North Fond du Lac man involved in a fatal crash in a construction zone on Interstate 41 more than a year ago has been charged. Travis Wollersheim made his initial Fond du Lac court appearance Tuesday on two counts of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle. He is free on a $20,000 signature bond. Wollersheim was the driver of an SUV that slammed into the back of a car that had slowed to stop behind a semi-tractor trailer in June of 2016 on Interstate 41 between the Johnson and Military Road exits. Two passengers in the car, a 26 year old man and eight year old boy were killed. Traffic on 41 was slowed due to construction. Wollersheim, a passenger in his Jeep, and the driver of the car received minor injuries. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 10.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
