MILWAUKEE (AP) — Authorities allege a 24-year-old man opened fire on two former co-workers on a Milwaukee freeway the day he was fired. Jonathan Perez appeared in court Tuesday on felony charges of first-degree reckless injury and first-degree recklessly endangering safety, both by using a dangerous weapon. Perez was arrested Monday in Friday’s shooting on Interstate 43. The complaint says the two co-workers were in a Ford Explorer after working in Brown Deer when Perez pulled up and fired a pistol from a few feet away. The driver said the bullet grazed his thigh. His passenger’s left middle finger was nearly severed, and he suffered a through-and-through gunshot wound to his left thigh. Bail for Perez is set at $50,000. Defense attorney Matt Meyer says it’s too early in the case to comment.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
