A Fond du Lac man has been convicted of robbing a Fond du Lac business. David Haefner pleaded no contest to theft as a repeater. Charges of robbery, theft from a financial institution and bail jumping were dismissed and read into the record. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered and a sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 4th. Police Chief Bill Lamb says Haefner robbed Heights Finance on Rickmeyer Drive. Lamb says a sheriff’s deputy later spotted the suspect’s vehicle on West Johnson Street. The vehicle stopped and Haefner fled on foot. He was apprehended inside the Valvoline oil change store.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
