The Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue division chief of fire prevention says now is the time to develop and practice a fire escape plan, if you haven’t already. Troy Haase says the them of Fire Prevention Week this week is Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out. Haase says a National Fire Protection Association survey found one third of respondents thought they would have at least six minutes to get out of their house, when the time is often less. Haase says most people who die in fires, die from smoke inhalation.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
