Fond du Lac police are investigating a suspected camp for homeless people in a wooded area on Alliant Energy property. Police investigated after receiving a tip from a resident on Thompkins Street who says they saw people walking into the woods every day. Police say they found evidence people had been sleeping there overnight with structures built out of trees and tarps. The Fond du Lac Salvation Army says last year they served 87 homeless people for 151 nights. The Salvation Army shelter is open through March.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
