Fond du Lac area residents and their families are invited to join St. Agnes Hospital from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 5 as it offers tours of its new Women & Infants birthing rooms. Guests can arrive through St. Agnes Hospital’s main entrance and will be directed to the new area on the hospital’s sixth floor. The new Women & Infants area will open after a November 8 move. The new area features labor, delivery and recovery rooms with whirlpool tubs and ample space for a birthing partner. Following recovery, moms will enjoy the benefits of private postpartum rooms. “With our new space, we will be able to continue to practice high quality care in a state-of-the-art facility,” according to Brita McCullough, MD, St. Agnes Hospital OB/GYN department chairperson. St. Agnes Hospital’s Women & Infants offers the following best practices that support mom, baby and family-centered care:
Family-centered cesarean section: Involve partner to be present at birth; support breastfeeding as soon as possible after the baby is delivered.
Skin-to-skin contact: Babies stay warmer, calmer and breastfeed more easily than babies who are swaddled or wrapped.
Lactation consultant services: Support is available to mom and baby immediately after birth, during hospital stay and after discharge home.
Rooming-in: Baby shares room with mom for the majority of time from birth to discharge home.
Baby’s first bath: It’s recommended to wait to give them their first complete bath between 12 and 24 hours of birth to stabilize body temperature.
