10-9-17 wisconsin youth obesity

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A national report shows that height and weight measurements used to calculate body mass index indicate that Wisconsin's adolescents are catching up to adult levels of obesity. The 2016 National Survey of Children's Health found that 30 percent of Wisconsin children ages 10 to 17 are overweight or obese, while the state's adult rate of obesity is 31 percent.

10-9-17 domestic violence homicides

A report compiled by the group End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin shows domestic violence homicides occurred at a record pace in 2016.  The report shows there were 51 domestic homicides n 2016, up from 41 the year before.  The group’s public policy director, Chase Tarrier, says 53 percent of the homicides were committed with a firearm.  Meanwhile, Tarrier says the murder-suicide of a Fond du Lac doctor and his wheelchair bound […]

10-9-17 domestic abuse cases-fdl county

The number of domestic violence cases reported to the Fond du Lac County District attorneys office is down so far this year.  Assistant DA Kristin Menzel specializes in domestic violence cases.  Menzel says there have been more than 200 fewer such cases forwarded to her office in 2017 compared to last year.  District attorney Eric Toney says domestic violence is often a pattern that escalates over a period of time.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump has approved federal disaster assistance for areas of Wisconsin affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding, landslides, and mudslides in late July.  Trump signed the declaration on Saturday, allowing emergency funding to repair damage in Buffalo, Crawford, Grant, Iowa, Jackson, La Crosse, Lafayette, Monroe, Richland, Trempealeau, and Vernon counties.  Wisconsin Gov. MILWAUKEE (AP) — Scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee played a role in breakthrough research on gravitational waves that earned a Nobel Prize in physics.  Researchers Barry Barish and Kip Thorne of California and Massachusetts scientist Rainer Weiss were awarded the Nobel Prize Tuesday. 10-9-17 scott street lane restrictions start monday

Starting Monday the eastbound lanes on Scott Street at Military Road  in Fond du Lac will be down to one lane of traffic.  The Public Works Department says the lane restriction is necessary for pavement removal and replacement.   The traffic lane will remain closed until the pavement is fully cured, about 2 weeks. 10-7-17 victim identified in fatal dodge county motorcycle accident

The name of the victim of a fatal  motorcycle crash in Dodge County this  week has been released.  The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office says 52 year old  Richard Behling of rural Hartford was killed in the accident.  The Sheriff’s Office says Behling was  killed when he was struck by a car and  a  dump truck after he first hit a deer on a Dodge County Highway.   The crash happened shortly […]

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The University of Wisconsin System's leaders have approved a policy that calls for suspending and expelling students who disrupt campus speeches and presentations.  The Board of Regents approved the policy on a voice vote Friday at UW-Stout.
