The state senate has approved a bill designed to crack down on deadly opioids known as fentanyl analogs. The bill would make possessing, manufacturing or dealing a fentanyl analog a felony. Ellen Sorensen with Drug Free Communities of Fond du lac County says the highly potent drug is being added to heroin to stretch its use, leading to spikes in overdoses across the state. Sorensen says fentanyl also has a large animal application. “We actually put a drug drop campaign this year, beta-tested with a veterinarian in Fond du Lac County because while veterinarians are very good about disposing of their drugs their customers may not be aware that people would be willing to steal their pet meds,” Sorensen told WFDL news. Sorensen says in addition to law enforcement there needs to be a community-wide comprehensive approach.
