After rejecting a contract in August, Ryan Vossekuil has accepted a new contract to be Mayville police chief. Vossekuil had been serving as interim chief since April, after former chief Chris MacNeill resigned after being charged with felony misconduct in office. Vossekuil rejected the first contract offer which included a probationary period and would have allowed the council to fire him at any time without just cause. The council restarted negotiations following an online petition with more than 800 signatures from Mayville residents in support of Vossekuil.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
