Representatives of the Fond du Lac area construction industry say they are pleased with school board action this week regarding regarding the school district’s career construction academy. The school board voted this week to fund an additional $250,000 on top of the half million dollars already earmarked so construction on a new $1.1 million facility can start next spring. Bob Roehrig with County Materials says fundraising will continue in an effort to lessen the taxpayer burden, and furnish the new facility once its built. “This project is going to help almost all of the construction companies in Fond du Lac County so we’re going to continue fundraising,” Roehrig told WFDL news. Roehrig says he believes it will be one of the best programs in the state. Joe Mand with Wrightway Builders says the Academy will be beneficial for students regardless of whether they pursue a construction trade or go to college. Mand says Fond du Lac companies will look at Academy students as potential future employees. C.D. Smith’s Pat Smith says construction is slated to begin March first. “We’re looking at that to be a good start date,” Smith said. “We’ll be able to get the building up and enclosed by the beginning of the fall school year. We’ll be able to get some of the kids in there to do some of the interior work themselves and be able to see how the building progresses.”
