One person was seriously injured in an explosion and fire at a Rosendale cheese plant. Shortly after 7am Friday firefighters were called to the auto shop at Knaus Cheese on County Highway C for a report of an explosion and fire. The Lamartine Fire Department and several other assisting fire departments were able to extinguish the fire. The fire started when an employee, Travis J Klotzbach, was using a cutting torch on an empty 55 gallon barrel. An explosion occurred, causing serious injury to Klotzbach’s legs, back and face. Klotzbach was transported by Theda Star helicopter to UW Hospital in Madison. The blaze was contained to the auto shop, which did sustain smoke and fire damage.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
