Nobody was injured in a fire that damaged a storage shed attached to a barn near Mount Calvary. Firefighters were called shortly before 4am Sunday to the Mark Steffes farm on County Highway G near Wolf Lake. Mount Calvary Fire chief Greg Mueller says firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the barn. Mueller says its fortunate the call came in when it did. Mueller says a volunteer firefighter on his way home from working at the New Holstein Police Department spotted the fire and called it in. Firefighters were on the scene for about three hours.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
