The Waupun City administrator says a 2018 city budget focuses on long range planning. The common council recently approved the $11 million budget that includes a 12 percent increase in the tax levy. City administrator Kathy Schlieve says the budget addresses the long-range road improvement needs of the city. Schlieve says budget requests for Public Works and the Library were reduced with an increase in spending to spur economic development and for a long-range facility plan.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
