An impressive site near Waupun when a gas line caught fire near Ballweg Implement Wednesday morning with flames shooting 50 feet into the air. State representative Joan Ballweg says she could see the flames from her store. Waupun fire chief B.J. DeMaa says Alliant Energy was doing repair work to the line when it appears a valve didn’t close properly. Highway 68 and Ver Hage Road were closed for approximately 2 hours while the gas supply was shut off and pressure drained from the line. Two properties were evacuated as a precaution and 10-15 customers were without gas service as of 10:30am. All roads were opened and firefighters cleared the scene around 10:45am and there were no injuries to report.
