A political scientist says a rash of sexual assault and harassment allegations against powerful men in congress and the media is a sad commentary. Retired Ripon College political science professor Marty Farrell says we hit a classic tipping point with the sex assault allegations against Harvey Weinstein in Hollywood. “The tipping point means that people tolerate bad things if they think they’re the only ones who are going to speak out against it because they may be retaliated against, they may not be believed,” Farrell told WFDL news. “Most people are willing if they have other people who are willing to go with them. You just get this accumulation and finally it looks like a dam has burst.” In most of the recent revelations, the people accused have either apologized, been been fired or forced to resign. Thirteen women accused then presidential candidate Donald Trump of sexual abuse or harassment, but Trump denied the allegations and won election.
