Fond du Lac fire officials say a fire over the weekend is a reminder why its important to call the Fire Department right away. A fire destroyed a car and damaged the garage and two houses Saturday night. Division Chief of Fire Prevention Troy Haase says the car owner told him she tried to put the fire out by herself before dialing 911. The fire spread from a car to the garage and the house and started melting the siding on a neighbor’s house. Haase says firefighters may have been able to prevent it from spreading. “You get panicky when the fire starts. She couldn’t find her phone right away to call 9-1-1 so she began to try to put the fire out by herself,” Haase told WFDL news. “…you really need to get us coming first.”

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
