The Dodge County Sherff says alcohol appears to be a factor in a deadly wrong way, head-on collision New Year’s Eve. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says 60 year old Gloria Batzler of Watertown was driving the wrong way on Highway R in the town of Emmet when her car collided with a pick up driven by 62 year old Curtis Wolter of Hustiford. Both drivers died at the scene. Schmidt says the pick up driver did not have any time to react. Three people in a third vehicle involved in the crash received non life-threatening injuries.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
