The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation to determine why a Fond du Lac woman tried to walk from an ice shanty on Lake Winnebago to the shore in subzero temperatures. Sheriff’s captain Ryan Waldschmidt says 27 year old Lindsey Klima was at a New Year’s Eve party on the lake when for some reason started walking toward the shore. She was found dead on the shore, the likely victim of exposure to the bitter cold. Waldschmidt says the woman was not dressed for the cold, wearing only a light jacket. Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says it doesn’t take long for frostbite or hypothermia to set in. Mueller says alcohol can also be a factor.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
