A downtown Fond du Lac business is the winner of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation’s Main Street Makeover contest. Annie’s Fountain City Café was selected based on business success, community support and a clear vision for the business moving forward. As the winner Annie’s will receive personalized technical assistance and up to $10,000 for storefront and interior improvements. Owner, Ann Culver, says her business opened in January 2016 with a goal of creating a community gathering place in the heart of the downtown. The Café’s pay-it-forward wall allows customers to buy coffee or lunch for future visitors. The contest is designed to raise awareness off the Wisconsin Main Street program.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
