Fond du Lac city crews responded to several frozen water pipes and broken water mains during the recent cold snap. Public Works director Jordan Skiff says since December 19 there have been six water main breaks including four in one day. Skiff says crews have also responded to five frozen water service lines to people’s homes. Skiff says the temperature moderation this week is welcome but won’t have any impact on the frost depth. Skiff says all signs right now are pointing to a harsh winter for frozen water pipes.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
