The Fond du Lac city council has rejected a special use permit request that would have allowed construction of a large storage unit complex near a residential development. At their meeting Wednesday night the council voted 6-1 against the request to allow more than 300 storage units on five acres of commercial property on Lighthouse Village Road south of Highway 151. Residents of the nearby Wildlife Acres subdivision told the council the development would negatively impact their property value. Tom Carewtold WFDL news he never would have purchased $4 million worth of property for “high-end” condos if he had known that storage units were planned for the adjacent commercial property. Residents say when they bought their property they were told plans for the adjacent commercial property included “Door County type” shops and restaurants.
