1-12-18 new superintendent named at state’s youth prison

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A new superintendent at Wisconsin's troubled youth prison that Gov. Scott Walker wants to convert to an adult facility has been hired. The state Department of Corrections announced Thursday that 24-year agency veteran Jason Benzel has been hired. He will begin the job on Jan. 22. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Wisconsin Ethics Commission audit has determined that more than 14 percent of the state's lobbyists may be engaging in unauthorized lobbying. The commission released its report Thursday without naming any of the potential violators. The commission planned to contact the 78 lobbyists identified for an explanation. 1-11-18 fdl taxi driver died from natural causes before taxi cab crashed into tree

Fond du Lac police say a taxi driver died from natural causes before his taxi cab crashed into a tree earlier this month.  Seventy five year old Richard Kunasch died this week at Theda Care Medical Center in Neenah.   The crash happened January 4 on Hawthorne Drive.just east of Buttermilk Drive.  An autopsy determined that Kunasch died from natural causes from underlying medical issues including cardiac disease and not from […]

1-11-18 man convicted of defrauding sadoff iron and metal out of millions of dollars

The owner of three scrap metal companies has been convicted of defrauding a Fond du lac scrap metal company out of millions of dollars.  At a plea hearing Thursday Sterling Kienbaum pleaded no contest  to racketeering and theft.     A restitution hearing is scheduled for May and and a sentencing hearing in June.  District Attorney Eric Toney says Kienbaum stole $14 million from Sadoff Iron and Metal between 2009 and May […]

1-11-18 heavy truck traffic no longer allowed on s. hickory street bridge

Heavy trucks can no longer drive over the South Hickory Street Bridge in Fond du lac.  The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has reduced the load limit on the the bridge between Western Avenue and S. Military Road to 30-Tons, affecting heavily loaded semi traffic.   The limit was ordered after deteoriation in the bridge was discovered during an inspection last year.  City  officials say the bridge remains safe to normal traffic.  […]
