2-1-18 decision on turner case could determine whether halloween killer comes back to fdl

todayFebruary 1, 2018

A decision on whether  convicted murderer  Gerald Turner should remain in custody could  determine whether the Halloween killer ever comes back to Fond du Lac.  A hearing will be held next week to determine if there is probable cause that Turner is  a  sexually violent person.   Fond du Lac County District attorney Eric Toney says if Turner is released from prison it seems highly unlikely that he would choose to live in Fond du Lac.  “If he is released from prison there are no residency restrictions,”  Toney told WFDL news.  But Toney says ironically if Turner is held under a mental health commitment, if and when  he is released, he may be ordered back to Fond du Lac where the crime was committed.  “We’ve had a number of other counties trying to place people here and we’ve always said we will take our own.  So it is possible at some point if Turner is declared a sexually violent person he could end up back in our community.”  Turner was convicted in the murder of nine year old Lisa French in Fond du Lac on Halloween, 1973.
