2-3-18 brantner plea agreement

todayFebruary 3, 2018

A plea agreement has been reached in the case of an over the road trucker charged in the 1990 murder of a Sturdevant teenager in Fond du Lac County.  As part of a plea deal Dennis Brantner entered an Alford plea to a charge of second degree reckless homicide  in the death of Berit Beck. Under the plea Brantner does not admit guilt but acknowledges the evidence could result in a conviction.  Brantner was scheduled to go on trial this month on charges of first degree murder. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison when he is sentenced March 1.   The 18 year old Beck was driving from her home in Sturdevant to Appleton when she disappeared after stopping at the Fond du Lac Forest Mall.  Her body was found about a month later in a roadside ditch near Waupun.  Brantner was charged after  the state crime lab matched his fingerprints to prints found in Beck’s van.  A mistrial was declared in June of 2016 after the jury told the judge it was deadlocked.
