Four members of Wisconsin’s congressional delegation were not hurt following a fatal collision between an Amtrak train and a garbage truck this week. House Speaker Paul Ryan and U.S. Reps. Glenn Grothman, Sean Duffy and Jim Sensenbrenner were all on the Amtrak train, which was carrying GOP congressman to a retreat in West Virginia, when the crash occurred near Charlottesville, Virginia. Grothman told WFDL news he didn’t know what had happened right away. Grothman says the whole incident was horrible. “I was just sitting there. The train is a big thing. Even though it hit this massive truck the train did not slow down much,” Grothman told WFDL news. “It was just like a bump like you went over an animal or something.” The crash resulted in one confirmed fatality and one serious injury, although no members of Congress or their staff members reported serious injuries.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
