The Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue Department is warning Fond du Lac residents about a dangerous fad involving teenagers popping laundry detergent pods in their mouths. Fire chief Pete O’Leary says recent social media posts show teens biting into the pods and daring others to do the same. O’Leary says the pods contain chemicals that can be life-threatening if ingested. The company Tide tweeted recently that the pods should be used for doing laundry and nothing else.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
