A Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy has filed papers to run for sheriff. Mike Norton has filed his declaration candidacy paperwork with the Fond du lac County Clerk’s Office. Norton has worked in the Sheriff’s Office for more than 20 years, starting as a corrections officer in the county jail. Fond du Lac County Sheriff Mick Fink has not announced whether he plans to seek re-election in November. Candiates for the November election may begin circulating nomination papers April 15.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
