Another tax filing season is underway in Wisconsin. Department of Revenue Secretary Rick Chandler says filers have until April 17 to submit their returns. “We’re in our third week of tax filing season and we get about three million returns,” Chandler told WFDL news. “About 18 percent of people have filed already, so about 540,000 returns have been filed.” Chandler says the department encourages residents to file their tax returns electronically. Chandler says a number of safeguards are in place to try to protect someone from having a false return filed in their name.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
