The Fond du Lac city council has approved liquor licenses for two new Fond du lac restaurants and one existing restaurant. At their meeting Wednesday evening the council approved license applications for the new owner of Backyard Bar and Grill, Paddy’s Pizza and The Sweet and Salty Pig. The owner of Ala Roma’s and Schmitty’s Oar House has purchased Backyard from longtime owner Mark Trepanier. Paddy’s Pizza will be opening a new restaurant at the former Pizzaville on West Scott Street and the Sweet and Salty Pig is going in at the former Cool River Bar and Grill on Pioneer Road. Owner Allison Gossman, a former cook at Backyard, says the restaurant will serve brunch, lunch and dinner…with a focus on southern comfort food.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
