Fond du Lac Republican state representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt has apologized for a tweet that romanticized the good old days when kids took their rifles to school. The tweet was posted Thursday evening and taken down a short time later. It said: “Flashback 30 years: when guns were in schools…and nothing happened” and linked to an article on the conservative website PJ Media. “The millennial generation might be surprised to learn that theirs is the first without guns in school. Just 30 years ago, high school kids rode the bus with rifles and shot their guns at high school rifle ranges,” according to the article. Thiesfeld posted a tweet late Thursday, that said “Apologies for reposting the article. It was poorly timed and insensitive. It has been appropriately removed.” Thiesfeldt says he doesn’t believe and never has believed that children should be able to bring guns to school.
