3-1-18 waupun school safety

todayMarch 1, 2018

The Waupun school superintendent says area school leaders and  law enforcement are discussing security issues following the recent mass shooting at a Florida High School.  Dr. Tonya Olson says the high school liason officer has requested that police officers on patrol stop by the school over the lunch hour for example.  “That was not so much that we’re worried about security threats but I think its also to put students’ minds at ease that this is obviously something we take very seriously,”  Olson told WFDL news.   Olson says the recently passed building referendum also increases security at entrances to the district elementary schools.  Olson says schools need more resources to intervene at an early age for students with mental health issues.
