A Fond du Lac man who fled following an attempted traffic stop, leading police on a short high speed chase has been charged. John Hanna Jr. has made his initial court appearance on a charge of eluding an officer and operating after revocation. The chase started last Monday night when an officer attempted to stop a vehicle on County Highway V and Tap Street. Hanna fled at a high rate of speed and turned onto Mequon Avenue, where the chase was terminated a short time later. Hanna pulled into a driveway on Maona Avenue and fled on foot. Police arrived and set up a perimeter and searched the area. They learned the driver’s identity because Hanna accidentally left his cell phone in his car.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
