Fond du Lac police have identified the teenager responsible for posting a threat on social media targeting Fond du Lac High School. Police say they were able to link the post to a 16 year old boy from Arkansas who had previous ties to the Fond du Lac area and are working with the District Attorney’s Office and state of Arkansas on possible criminal charges related to the incident. Police chief Bill Lamb says the student who brought the post to the attention of the high school principal did the right thing. Lamb says if you see something, say something. “Whether its school threats or threats against national or homeland security, there is so much of this information that can be found on social media and it is critical that people not assume that its a benign comment,” Lamb told WFDL news. Hundreds of students stayed home from school Monday after learning about the threat, referencing a shooting taking place at the school. Superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert says a student brought the threat to the attention of principal Matt Steinbarth. The snapchat message said: “Attention Fondy High School students. I’ve been informed that there’s going to be a school shooting tomorrow (3-5-18) I don’t know if this is true, but I wouldn’t trust it, don’t go to school.” Sebert says the District left it up to parents to decide if they wanted their child in school, and more than 70 percent of the student body stayed home. School board president, Mark Jurgella describes the threat as an act of terrorism. “It makes me angry that someone felt it was okay to post this kind of implied threat to our school and to disrupt our educational process,” Jurgella told WFDL news. School officials say school will be conducted Tuesday and the increase law enforcement presence will continue Five police officers were stationed at the school Monday as the investigation took place.
