3-15-18 area fire departments assisting beaver dam fire following explosion

The Fond du Lac Fire Department is assisting Beaver Dam Fire in  the aftermath of a fatal explosion at a Beaver Dam apartment complex.   Fire chief Pete O’Leary has been assisting at the Beaver Dam Emergency Operations Center this week and  says a Fond du lac fire engine and ambulance are on  the scene Thursday for a controlled fire to burn down the apartment building.  O’Leary says a controlled explosion last week didn’t have the desired effect of neutralizing the explosive chemicals in the apartment.  O’Leary says it’s a shame that apartment tenants will lose all of their possessions, but says it would simply be too dangerous to allow them to  go back in.  Ripon and Waupun fire departments are also assisting.  Meanwhile the investigation into why the man had explosive chemicals and what he planned to do with them continues.
