Hundreds of Fond du Lac High School students joined thousands of students across the state and participated in a national school walkout Wednesday on the one month anniversary of the Florida High School shooting. The students gathered in the gym to honor the 17 people who were killed and then walked outside for 17 minutes of silence. High school sophomore Mohini Kumar and junior Breanna Schmoldt helped organize the event. Kumar says students who feel alone or depressed need to realize that there are other students they can lean on. “I think everyone has a moment in their life where they feel alone or they feel like an outsider,” Kumar told WFDL news. “Its important that we have this walkout to show you’re not alone.” Schmoldt says its hard to understand why there have been so many mass shootings at schools across the country. “I just think its crazy that there are people who just want to kill because they’re angry or depressed or whatever their reasons are,” Schmoldt said. “I think its such a loss because one person couldn’t control themself.”
