3-15-18 winnebago walleye management plan

todayMarch 15, 2018

The Department of Natural Resources has scheduled three public meetings on a proposed update to the Winnebago Walleye Management plan.  DNR Fisheries biologist Adam Nickel says the current bag limit is five.  He says one question is whether that limit should be changed?   Nickel says overall the Winnebago System walleye population is strong.  The meetings start at 6:30pm March 19 at the JP Coughlin Center in Oshkosh,  March 21 at the Engler Performing Arts Center in Chilton and March 28 at the Nature Center in New London.  This is the first major update to the plan since it originated in 1991.   Winnebago System waters include lakes Poygan, Winneconne, Butte des Morts and Winnebago and all their tributaries, including the Wolf and upper Fox rivers, from their mouths upstream to the first dam.
