The Fond du Lac County Clerk says she will be participating in training to bolster election security. Clerk Lisa Freiberg will be involved in training local clerks how to protect passwords and avoid other computer hacking attempts. Freiberg says the concern is protecting the voter information system. The Wisconsin Elections Commission is working with cyber-security specialists from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for a two-week risk-assessment test in May or June to identify vulnerabilities. Freiberg says the Russians may have been testing the Wisconsin elections system prior to the 2016 election, and fears it could happen again.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
