A new study ranks two Fond du Lac County communities among the most affordable places to live in Wisconsin. The fourth annual study from financial technology company Smart Asset lists North Fond du Lac at number three and Waupun as the tenth most affordable community to live in the state. The communities are ranked on an Affordability Index weighing property taxes, homeowners’ insurance fees and mortgage payments relative to income. Waupun city administrator Kathy Slieve says its great news, but doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise. The study says Waupun’s annual property tax averages at just over $2600 and has a median income of $53,000. North Fond du Lac’s property taxes average just over $2300 with a median income of nearly $49,000. The village of Kronenwetter, near Wausau, is ranked as the most affordable city to live in Wisconsin.
