The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office helped rescue a runaway pet dog on the ice of Lake Winnebago. The black Lab had got loose from its lead at a house in the area of Cotton and North Main Streets Friday afternoon and ran north onto the lake where it was spotted about a half mile north of the shore on ice between open water. The Sheriff’s Office Dive and Rescue team and Amphibious Rescue Craft was able to get to the area but the dog ran as they got closer. As they began to follow the dog, it made its way back to shore and took off running again. About four hours after the Lab initially ran away he was captured by its owner and deputies near Mr. Marine at the dead end of Water St north of Scott St. The dog was not injured.
