3-21-18 senate okays school safety plan

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Senate has passed Gov. Scott Walker's school safety proposal that makes $100 million in grants available.  The Senate passed the bill 28-4 on Tuesday. 3-21-18 dodge county sheriff’s office continues to investigate fatality on beaver dam lake

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is continuing  its investigation after a man died when his pick-up broke through the ice on Beaver Dam Lake.  Sheriff Dale Schmidt says the victim has been identified as 52 year old Gary Ballweg.     Schmidt says an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.  The truck was found partially submerged in about 4-5 feet of water 20 yards from shore.  Schmidt says […]

A Family Care program that was piloted in Fond du lac County is changing the way it operates.   Fond du Lac County executive Al Buechel says the Lakeland Care District Board is expected to vote to dissolve the District at a meeting this Wednesday.  Buechel says the non-profit Lakeland Care Incorporated was created about a year ago when the state decided it would no longer support Districts for Family Care.   Lakeland Care grew from one of […]

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Senate has passed a Republican bill to protect landlords. The Senate passed the measure 18-14 Tuesday. It allows local governments to inspect rental properties only in blighted areas with numerous complaints, decreasing values or increases in single-family home conversions to rental units. 3-21-18 attorney calls prison settlement largest ever

The attorney for a former youth prison inmate who won an $18.9 million settlement with the state Department of Corrections says the payout is the largest civil rights settlement in state history.  Sydni Briggs tried to hang herself in her cell at the state's youth prison outside Irma in November 2015.
