The chairman of the Democratic National Committee says a state Supreme Court race this week was a referendum on Republican Governor Scott Walker. DNC chair Tom Perez says Rebecca Dallet’s Victory is a harbinger of things to come. “This was a spectacular victory,” Perez told AM 1170s Between the Lines program. “People are sick and tired of this.” Perez says the DNC will also be closely watching two special elections in June including on for the 42nd Assembly District that includes Columbia, Dodge and a portion of Fond du Lac County. Chairman of the Republican Party of Fond du lac County Rohn Bishop admits he was surprised by the margin of victory for Dallet. But Bishop says historically in Wisconsin state supreme court contests have not been an indicator of election outcomes in November. Bishop says more concerning to him is the defeat of a statewide referendum to eliminate the state treasurer position. “Its really scary. If we can’t even get rid of an office that has nothing to do that’s not a good sign.”

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
